SULAIMANI – Three people including two Asayish (security) personnel were wounded in gunfire in Badawa neighborhood in Erbil on Sunday (May 23). 

An eyewitness told Zhyan News Network reporter said that an unidentified gunman opened fire at an Asayish detachment, wounding two security members and a woman.

The shooter fled the scene and is at large as of reporting time. 

The security apparatus in Erbil has not commented on the incident and the security forces has launched an investigation into the incident. 

There has been a rise in murders, more notably through gunshots, across the Kurdistan Region.

On February 10, 2019, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior gave gun owners six months to log their unregistered or illicit small firearms and called on people to hand over their medium and heavy weaponry.
