Asayish wounded in shootout with suspect in Sulaimani’s Sangasar

SULAIMANI – An Asayish (security) member was wounded by a suspect in a shootout in Sangasar sub-district, 123.1 kilometers northwest of Sulaimani on Thusrday (May 27), an official told said.
The Asayish forces went to the town to arrest the suspect based upon an arrest warrant, but the suspect opened fire at the security force and wounded one personnel, Daban Muhammad, director of Emergency Hospital in Ranya district, told Zhyan News Network.
“There are bullets on his feet and has bene sent to Sulaimani hospital for treatment due to the severity of his wounds,” Muhammad said.
The suspect was arrested and sent to the hospital after he failed to run that hurt his head and feet.
On Sunday, three people including Asayish personnel were wounded in gunfire in Badawa neighborhood in Erbil.
There has been a rise shootings and killings, especially in domestic conflicts, across the Kurdistan Region.
On February 10, 2019, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior gave gun owners six months to log their unregistered or illicit small firearms and called on people to hand over their medium and heavy weaponry.
On Tuesday, KRG Minister of Interior Rebar Ahmad told the Kurdistan Parlaiment the cabinet has plans to righten gun control laws, saying he cannot promise a complete end to gun markets amid a spike in murders and domestic violence using guns.
