SULAIMANI – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is “intentionally” accusing the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) of killing one Peshmerga from Duhok’s Darkar area, relations committee of the PKK said on Wednesday (June 9), denying responsibility.

PKK relations committee accused the KDP of “manipulating” media and public opinion with false information “to give legitimacy to the occupation by the Turkish state.”

One Peshmerga was killed “in a sniper attack” on Tuesday (June 8) after he was deployed along with a number of Peshmerga forces to prevent further Turkish advances in Darkar area of Zakho district.

Hours after the incident, KDP accused PKK of responsibility, citing the mayor of Darkar area Adeb Jafaar.

The Ministry of Peshmerga condemned the attack and called on the Iraqi government and allied countries to play a role alongside the Kurdish forces and protect the Kurdistan Region’s border areas from “trespass.”

“The PKK fighters should understand that with such actions no aim can be achieved and our people will pay the big price,” Peshmerga Ministry said in a statement.

“We reiterate that protecting the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region is the priority of the Peshmerga Ministry and we will not allow any force and any side to put its borders in danger.”

The military wing of the PKK, the People's Defense Forces (HPG), rejected the accusations that the Peshmergas fighter was killed in their fire, reported by Roj News affiliated with the PKK.

Razwan Sindi, a 30-year-old Peshmerga and father of two children, became the sixth Peshmerga to be killed in less than one week while trying to protect the Kurdistan Region’s territorial sovereignty and amid Turkey’s ongoing military operation in the border areas.

On June 5, five Peshmerga affiliated with the KDP were killed and four others wounded after their vehicle was caught in a blast in Duhok’s Mount Metina.
