SULAIMANI – Three members of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and Autonomous Administration of North East Syria (AANES) were arrested by the security forces on their way to Erbil International Airport on Thursday (June 10).

The detained were Mustafa Osman Xaleel, the PYD Relations Representative in Erbil, Mustafa Aziz Miste, the member of the PYD Diplomatic Representation in Erbil and Jihad Hesen, the AANES representative in Erbil, Hawar News (ANHA) affiliated with the AANES reported.

They were arrested by the security forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at around 03:00 am on their way to the airport to receive a number of their guests there, according to AANES representation office in the Kurdistan Region.

They were arrested "without receiving any information about the reason for the arrest so far," the AANES office said.

The YPD and its affiliates are close to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Tenisons have been high between the KDP and PKK over the months amid an ongoing Turkey’s land and air operation against the PKK in the border areas in northern Duhok governorate.

The new Turkish aggression has pitted the KDP against the PKK as the former enjoys cordial relations with Turkey.

“We condemn such irresponsible behavior. At the same time, we call on the Kurdistan Democratic Party to release them immediately and to explain the reason for this arrest because they represent political parties and work in the diplomatic sector,” the AANES office added.
