SULAIMANI – A young Kolbar (porter) was shot and killed after the Iranian security forces opened fire at a group of Kolbars in Hangazhal area in Baneh countryside earliest on Sunday (June 20), a watchdog said.
Hengaw Human Rights Organization, which reports on human rights abuses in the Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhalat), identified the victim as 27-year-old Saadoun Ahmadi.
“This Kolbar was killed by one of the commanders of the Hengzhal military base named "Kashani" from Ardabil, Iran,” the watchdog claimed.
Another Kolbar was also severely wounded in a direct fire by the Iranian forces in Kele region West Azerbaijan province.
On June 14, two porters were shot and wounded
by the Iranian security forces in Nawsood area in Kermanshah province.
Iranian security forces and border guards have killed and wounded 25 Kolbars in
the first half of 2021 in Kurdistan province's Baneh border areas.
Kolbars carry heavy loads of contraband on their backs across the border areas in Iran, Iraq and Turkey, blaming the high rate of unemployment in western Iran known as Rojhalat.
Working in the smuggling trade has cost the lives of hundreds of Kurdish porters.
