SULAIMANI – Twelve security personnel were wounded including eight through gunshots after a clash occurred between two security forces in Sarchinar neighborhood in Sulaimani late on Monday (June 21).

The fighting happened near Abu Sana Hotel between a Commando force affiliated with the Peshmerga Forces Command 70 and Asayish (security) forces, a source told Zhyan News Network.

Heavy weapons such as Machine guns were used in the skirmish as per circulated videos.

Sulaimani High Security Committee said the people who are accused of fomenting insecurity will be arrested and brought to justice.

Sulaimani Asayish Directorate said in a statement that the cause of the clash was “a driver who did not adhere to the legal regulations and instructions, brought an outlawed armed force after making troubles.”

The armed force opened fire at the patrol force of the Asayish and police emergency forces and wounded six Asauish personnel and a policeman who have been evacuated to hospital for treatment, read the statement.

Commando, known as the Golden Force, is led by Kurdistan Region Vice President Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa.

This was the second clash between the two security forces in 2021.

On February 10, an Asayish member was killed and five other members were wounded in another clash between the two security forces in Tasluja checkpoint

The security forces rushed to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
