Fire destroys over 150 stores in Erbil’s Hawler Mall

SULAIMANI – Over 150 stores were burned after a blaze gutted three-story Hawler Mall market in the Kurdistan Region’s capital Erbil earlier on Friday (June 25), the Erbil Civil Defense Directorate said.
The damage caused by the fire is estimated at $300,000, the civil defense directorate said in a statement.
A shopkeeper told Zhyan News Network that he was informed around 04:30 pm of the fire.
“When we arrived, we saw all our properties have destroyed,” he said. “I lost goods worth of $350,00 to 400,000 in the fire.”
He said that there was no “fire extinguishing system” in the venue.
