SULAIMANI – A Syrian worker was killed in an avalanche in Pirzha snow mountain in Choman district northeast of Erbil on Sunday (June 27), a doctor says.
The victim was 33-years-old man from the Kurdish-predominantly northeast of Syrian, known as Rojava, who had gone to the district for work, physician Hawraz told Zhyan News network, noting he had gone to the venue for recreation after work.
“A person was evacuated to Choman Emergency Hospital at around 04:30 pm who had died from an avalanche,” he said.
In July, 2016, three people were also killed in another avalanche in the same area.
Despite dry and hot summer in nearly all areas, the region is famed with permanent snow in the four seasons that attracts tourists across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
