SULAIMANI – Three fishermen were arrested on Friday (July 2) in connection of poisoning Rokhana stream in Chamchamal’s Qadir Karam sub-district that left thousands of fishes perished.
On Tuesday, videos and photos circulated on social media showing a large number of fish died in the stream.
Four tons of fish were eliminated after the hunters inserted chemicals into the water for hunting, Maruf Majid, head of Future Organization for Environment Advocacy told a local media outlet.
On July 1, the security forces issued arrest warrants for four people in accordance with Article 42 of the Iraqi Penal Code after a delegation headed by Chamchamal Mayor Ramak Ramazan visited the venue and called on the security forces to bring to justice the doers of the “crime,” according to Chamchamal Mayoral District.
