SULAIMANI – Unity and creation of one Kurdish voice in Baghdad are main factors in accomplishing the rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region and resolving pending financial issues, said the High Committee of the Kurdistan Coalition in its first meeting on Monday (July 5).

“We discussed in detail the implementation of the agreement and the coalition between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Gorran Movement for the upcoming elections of the Iraqi House [Council] of Representatives,” said the head of the Kurdistan Coalition list Lahur Sheikh Jangi who oversaw the meeting.

Bothe sides, PUK and Gorran representatives, discussed “The mechanisms of cooperation, joint work, and the roadmap for the future of the coalition.”

PUK and Gorran have formed an electoral alliance, Kurdistan Coalition, to contest Iraq’s parliament elections on October 10. Both political parties announced their electoral alliance earlier in May to stand united in the election.

“We emphasized that this coalition is a brave step taken by the PUK and the Gorran Movement for the sake of the nation's high interest, the achievement of unity, and the creation of one Kurdish voice in Baghdad.”

Gorran was founded in 2009 after seceding from the PUK, as both share the powerhouse in Sulaimani and Halabja.  They are two of the main components of the KRG alongside the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
