SULAIMANI – A person was killed and another was injured late on Sunday (July 11) after shootouts owing to a dispute over pastures in Sakrayati valley in Balakayati area of Choman district, northeast of Erbil.
The fighting occurred between the nomads locally known as Barayis and residents of several villages, killing 36-year-old Qandil Muhammad and slightly injuring another, according to local media outlets.
A number of Balakayati residents and Barayis exchanged fires. Asayish (security forces) and police rushed to the scene to restore security to the area.
The Kurdistan Parliament and the Erbil Provincial Council formed a special committee to resolve the strife after it broke out in April 2020, but to no avail.
