SULAIMANI – The security forces raided the premises of iPlus Media Corporation affiliated with Co-President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Lahur Sheikh Jangi in Sulaimani on Tuesday evening (July 13), broke the reporting and broadcasting equipment and detained the employees for about an hour.

The raid came following the recent tensions between Sheikh Jangi with his counterpart and cousin Bafel Talabani after the latter unilaterally changed some security chiefs and changed his title within the party from co-president to president.

The follow is the text of iPlus Media Corporation following the raiding:

• On Tuesday evening (July 13), a security force raided the building of the iPlus Media Corporation in Sulaimani and detained its journalists and employees for about an hour.

• The security force looted some equipment at the corporation and broke part of the reporting and broadcast equipment and the gates, as well as the security force, switched off the CCTV cameras and the building’s electricity.

• The head and employees of the corporation were released and the security forces have been stationed in the corporation for the time being.

• A security force of about 50 armed men have come in masks and military uniforms.

• We, from the iPlus Media Corporation, are denouncing such practices by the group who has done this in the official uniforms of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) against a media agency and that has spread fear and dismay in the corporation.

• iPlus Media Corporation is calling on the international human rights, local and international journalist advocacies to condemn such uncivilized acts. We are also calling on the foreign envoys and consulates-general to not turn a blind eye to such violation, not be silent and calling a clarification from the KRG.

• iPlus Media Corporation is attributing the safety of its journalists and employees to the KRG relevant sides.
