SULAIMANI – A force of Peshmerga in Erbil’s Balakayati region prevent crews to remove large piles of graded snow off the main roads of two villages.

Residents of Gundajo and Galazher started to plow the village’s main roads by themselves after crews driving front-end loaders were prevented by the Peshmerga force to enter their areas.

The Peshmerga force has established bases near the two villages, where the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has a presence.

Locals were informed by the force to not bring font-end loaders to the area.

It comes amid recent military standoffs between PKK fighters and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) affiliated Peshmerga on the Kurdistan Region-Turkey border.

Strains between the two sides are growing, with civilians on both sides strongly rejecting any possible intra-Kurdish confrontation.
