SULAIMANI – The representative office of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the Kurdistan Region on Monday (March 15) applied to the United Nation accusing Kurdish security forces of “illegally” arresting the party members.

In an application to UN, the HDP’s office argued that 85 members of the pro-Kurdish party have been probed and compelled to dismiss in the last five months in areas under jurisdiction of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

A member of the HDP’s representative office, Mizgin Ari said during a news conference that the situation is “particularly critical” due to increasing pressure by both the KDP and Turkey.

Mizgin Ari accused Kurdish security forces in Duhok, Zakho and Erbil of forcing members to withdraw allegiance to the HDP and “spy for them.”

Ari said the arrest of HDP memebers has become increasingly “arbitrary.” “Isn’t it a shame, brother spying against brother?”

According to the HDP office four members of the party have been deported by Zakho’s Asayish, Kurdish security forces, to Syria and fate of a HDP member, Nimat Gunash, is unknown 50 days after his detention by KDP’s Agency to Protect the Kurdistan Region’s Security.

According to Article 19 of the Iraqi Penal Code, the right to expel or deport a foreigner lies in the jurisdiction of Iraqi federal courts.

“A politician, Omer Bartan, who lived in Erbil, was handed over to Turkey blindfolded on February 28 this year,” according to the application.
