SULAIMANI – Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Branch Twelve in Halabja early on Friday (March 19) and the office’s guards returned fire without causing any casualty despite material damage to the building.
Head of the KDP’s office Basam Ali said at a news conference following the shooting that his party has filed a lawsuit and is waiting for an investigation by the security forces.
“Shooting at the KDP offices has repeated for several times. I hope those [responsible] people will be arrested and [such incidents] will not become a phenomenon,” Ali said. “If the security forces work seriously and make investigations, they will be able to arrest the shooters.”
No casualties caused in spite of material damage to the premise, Ali added.
Halabja Governor Azad Tofiq visited the headquarters and promised to find and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Halabja Police Directorate Spokesperson Barzan Osman said that the building was sprayed with bullets by unknown armed men.
The shootings happened around 01:00 am where the shooters used a car and a motorcycle.
