SULAIMANI – The Kurdistan Region’s Cassation Court on Monday (April 19) approved death penalty against a man for killing his wife and three of his children.
On December 16, 2018, Dyar Majeed set a fire to the house that he shared with his wife Sewan Qadir, who was 23-years-old at the time, and their three young children in Chamchamal.
Sewan sustained burns to over 90 percent of her body. Her young children who aged one, two and five died in the fire, but Qadir spent eight days in hospital being treated for severe burns before succumbing to her injuries.
The documents related to the court decision have been transferred to the Kurdistan Region Presidency, lawyer for Qadir’s family Kosalan Hama Murad said.
The execution of Dyar Majeed will be implemented after it was approved by the Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani.
On April 22, 2019, one woman was released after her detention for being involved in killing Sewan Qadir and her children.
