SULAIMANI – An improvised explosive device (IED) killed a Turkish soldier in the Kurdistan Region, said Turkey’s Ministry of Defense on Sunday (April 25).

The soldier was identified as Aygiun Cakar by the ministry which blamed the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) for the attack.

Turkey has deployed several troops to Duhok’s Mount Kesta after a military incursion into the area boosting operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region.

According to Akray Turkish soldiers have penetrated more than nine kilometers into the Kurdistan Region’s territory and they have been detected patrolling the mountain.

Turkey’s airstrike and shelling are almost a daily recurrence in the Kurdistan Region, more notably in the border areas.

Cross-border land and air violations by Turkey has tripled on a daily average since 2017, according to records submitted by Iraq to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
