SULAIMANI – A number of Peshmerga forces’ Infantry Brigade 12 on Wednesday (February 24) protested at two military bases in Duhok’s Atrishi sub-district and Sulaimani’s Ranya district after they were excluded from a decision made few days by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs to pay three months’ worth of salaries to its brigades.

On February 21, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs decided that it would pay three months’ worth of salaries to the brigades under its jurisdiction. The decision sparked outrage among other Peshmerga forces not affiliated within the ministry.

There are fourteen brigades affiliated within the ministry known as the joint brigades.

Zhyan reporter Mazn Shangali said that about 1,500 Peshmerga fighters at Girdahol military camp in Atrishi were calling to be included in receiving three salaries allocated by the United States like other ministry’s brigades

The security forces barred the reporting teams to enter military base to cover the gathering, Shangali said.

Also on Wednesday, the Regiment 1 of the Peshmerga forces’ Infantry 12 protested for the same cause at a military base in Ranya.
