SULAIMANI – Head of Kurdish American Cooperation Organization Blend Brifkani said on Wednesday (February 24) that his organization will have plans to free more wild bears in Duhok’s Gara mountain in 2022.

On February 11, Brifkani’s non-profit organization released five wild bears in Duhok’s Gara mountain.

“The bears set free in Gara mountain have not hurt people,” he told Zhyan. “They have only pursued and ate honey.”.

He also said that there are more than 50 bears in Mount Gara.

“The [released] bears need time to learn the environment in the mountains.”

Photos circulated on social media on Wednesday display a bear had entered a house in Ashaw village in Duhok’s Sersink sub-district near Gara mountain.

“We distanced and took it to a place near other bears,” Brifkanin said, as he expressed his organization’s readiness to compensate damage caused by the bear.
