Peshmerga killed, another wounded in Kifri’s Zinana

SULAIMANI – A Peshmegra member was killed and another was wounded in an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Zinana sub-district in Sulaimani's Garmian administration at around 10:00 pm on Tuesday (May 11).
A security source told Zhyan News Network that the ISIS militants shot at the Peshmerga forces using snipers from Homarbli village, wounding two Peshmerga members.
"They were evacuated to Shahid Hazhar hospital in Kalar. One of the Peshmegra members succumbed to death due to the severity of his wounds," the source said, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The Peshmerga forces have been put on alert,” he added, concluding that the Peshmerga forces have been deployed to mop up area of the ISIS militants.
On May 1, four Peshmerga were killed and another
wounded in an ISIS attack in an area between the town of Prde (Altun Kupri) and Qaya Bashi village.
There has been an uptick in ISIS acts through armed attacks and planting explosive device in the governorate and other disputed areas claimed by Erbil and Baghdad.
The Kurdish officials have increased calls for joint centers and operations between the peshmerga and the federal forces in the contested areas.
ISIS militants perpetrated 456 terrorist acts in 2019, 270 in 2020 and 51 acts in the first three months of 2021, Jabbar Yawar, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Peshmegra Affairs, said on Saturday.
Iraq declared the fall of ISIS self-styled caliphate in December 2017, but the security remains fragile in the country, except for the territories in the Kurdistan Region.
