On Wednesday, 14 ISIS members were arrested by the Kurdish security forces in an operation in the same area.

Rojava Information Center (RIC), which monitors the armed conflicts in northeastern Syria, has recorded a surge in acts by ISIS sleeper cells.

The UK-based Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) recorded 260 assassinations including seventeen children and eleven women were by armed cells in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, al-Hasakah countryside, al-Raqqah city and countryside, and Manbij area. In addition, 478 SDF fighters, including local leaders, were assassinated in the same areas.

ISIS seized swathes of territories in Iraq and Syria in 2014. The militant group was declared defeated in Iraq in 2017 and 2019 in Syria respectively.
