SULAIMANI – A force affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) arrested a member of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) committee in Duhok’s Dinarta area.

PUK’s 16th committee in Dinarta issued a statement on Saturday (May 15) about the arrest of Mohammed Salih, accusing a KDP force of being behind his arrest.

Supporters and members of the PUK in Dinarta have frequently been subjected to arrests by KDP and Salih’s detention is part of KDP’s failed attempts to fade PUK’s constituency in the area, the committee said.

“In this area different accusations are fabricated against cadres and members of the PUK in an effort to arrest them, and arresting this cadre [Salih] is within the same framework,” the head of PUK’s committee in Dinarta, Mevan Hazim said.

Director of Dinarta’s Security Forces (Asayish) Shaban Khalil said a force from "Peshmerga Roj" is behind Salih’s arrest and that he has been transferred to the Directorate of Akre’s Asayish.

The so-called "Peshmerga Roj" is an armed group formed in 2012 at the request of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) whose chairman is Masoud Barzani, former President of the Kurdistan Region.
