SULAIMANI – A baby boy has been born in Duhok without a penis, a condition so rare that doctors say it only occurs in one in every 5 to 6 million boys.

The unnamed boy was born in the Kurdistan Region with the defect known as penile agenesis. Penile agenesis is a birth anomaly in humans, in which a male child is born without a penis.

This is the first report of an infant with the penile agenesis defect in the Kurdistan Region.

In early April, a surgery was performed to the first ever triphallic infant in Duhok in the Kurdistan Region, north of Iraq, according to the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

Foreign medics have said reconstruction penile surgery can be conducted as a 'good alternative' for the babies with penile agenesis defect.

In 2018, a UK man who was born without a penis was fitted with a £50,000 ($64,000) bionic penis.
