SULAIMANI – Two Peshmerga from Iranian Kurdistan and five elite forces were killed during a clash between the two sides in an area between Mahabad and Bokan, the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (PDKI) said on Friday (May 21).

“In a clash on the main road linking the Kurdish cities of Mahabad and Bokan between Kurdistan’s Peshmerga Forces and Iran’s paramilitary and intelligence services, 3 Etlaat agents and 2 IRGC members, including a commander were killed,” PDKI said on twitter referring to the Iranian intelligence forces and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Two Peshmerga, who were identified as Enwer Nasiri and Sohrab Khedirpor were killed during the clash, PDKI said.

“Unfortunately, two Peshmergas by the names of Enwer Nasiri and Sohrab Khedirpor lost their lives during the clash.”

There have been intermittent clashes between the group and the IRGC. On May 11, six people were killed in clashes between the two sides and a Kurdish armed group in Salmas, West Azerbaijan Province in Iran.

The PDKI, also known as the Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), is an armed party of Kurds in Iran. It is banned in Iran and designated by Tehran as a terrorist organization.

Since 1979, KDPI has waged a persistent guerrilla war against the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The group calls for self-determination of the Kurdish people and has been described as seeking either separatism or autonomy within a federal system.
